How We Live

We Live Together in the Covenant Relationship of Church Membership.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22

As a democratic body, under the lordship of Jesus Christ, our church reserves the right to determine the conditions for membership.  In general, membership will be open to all persons wishing to join with this body, who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, who have been baptized by immersion upon profession of their faith, and who subscribe to the beliefs and practices of our church.

Why is Church Membership Important?

  1. Church membership is important because it makes your relationship to Christ and his people visible.
  2. Church membership is important because it provides the opportunity to make a covenant commitment in a culture allergic to the idea.
  3. Church membership is important because it provides you with accountability: Matthew 18; Galatians 6
  4. Church membership is important because it provides you with leadership: Hebrews 13; 1 Timothy 3; Titus 1

Heartland Baptist Church Covenant

Having been led as we believe by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, doctrines, and discipline; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, and the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and private devotions; to teach the Scriptures to our children; to seek the salvation of our family and friends; to engage our culture with wisdom; to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit in Christian living, whether at church, at home or at our places of business; to edify one another in our speech, exhort one another toward Christ-like behavior and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior. We refuse to be mastered by any substance, to be enslaved by any sin, or to engage in any activity that causes a brother to stumble.

We further engage to care for one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to seek to show hospitality; to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep; to live in harmony with one another, refusing to be self-centered, repaying no one evil for evil, desiring to live peaceably with all.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

The first step in the membership process is taking Membership 101. Membership 101 is a 2 week class that meets during the Sunday School Hour.  During these two weeks we will discuss the mission and vision of our church, what the church believes, what membership involves, and what the various ministries of our church offer.  This course is a requirement for church membership but is also an opportunity for you to get to know us and one of our pastors in a much more personal way.

We would love to see you there.  If you would like to attend we would ask that you please fill out the registration below so we can plan accordingly. If this time does not work or you would like to know more at an earlier date please let us know in the additional comments. We will gladly set up a time meet with you face to face and answer any questions you may have.
