We exist to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.
The goal of all ministry at Heartland Baptist Church is to nurture disciples. That means we work together to produce in every disciple a robust conviction of biblical truth, a life characterized by obedience to Scripture, and the patient, prayerful ability to speak truth into the lives of those around them.
We apply our core values to the lives of our covenant members in every ministry and activity of our church. Thus, each value guides the shepherding of our church in learning and living as disciples of Jesus Christ.
We cooperate with other Southern Baptist churches in our city, state, and nation to make disciples, and we are affiliated with several organizations outside our denomination as well.
Jeremy Jessen has been the Pastor at Heartland Baptist Church since January, 2007. He is the primary teaching pastor, but he joins the other staff and elders in counseling, visitation, administration and oversight. The overarching verse describing his life and calling is Ezra 7:10, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.” The goal for his ministry is to study, do and teach God’s Word that God’s people might be served and that God’s name might be glorified. He received a B.A. in Pastoral Studies from Moody Bible Institute in 2001 and an MDiv in Christian Ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008. Jeremy and his wife Jennifer have three children: Isabel, Grant and Haddon.
Benjamin Leonard’s passion can be summed up well by the Apostle Paul, “But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine (Titus 2:1).” Paul heaps upon this command ten verses of doctrine lived out. As such Benjamin’s passion is to see theology lived out in the lives of believers. He has sought to do this as the Associate Pastor of Heartland Baptist Church in Oakville, MO, since 2009. There he fulfills the role as pastor, teacher, and administrator over a variety of ministries. He also seeks to apply this passion to his teaching at Missouri Baptist University and his blogging. Benjamin and his wife Valerie have been married since 2003 after he graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. They then moved to Louisville, Kentucky where Benjamin pastored a small church and completed his Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have been blessed with three great boys: Abraham, Jeremiah, and Josiah.
Justin has been the Minister of Media and Music since 2006. His oversight of music and media includes leading the music for all worship services, shepherding the hearts of the musicians, managing the equipment, and organizing the special music. He also assists in the Children’s ministry by teaching them about worship within the various ministries. Justin and his wife, Erin, met at Missouri Baptist University where they both studied Music Education. They married in 2007 and graduated from Missouri Baptist in 2008. Both Justin and Erin are employed as music teachers in the Mehlville School District. Justin teaches elementary music and Erin teaches high school choir. They are the happy parents of a beautiful girl, Libby Grace Falloon.
